Mapping Fish Habitats
Grades 68
Written by Katharine Barrett and Cary
Sneider
Students learn about and apply the field-mapping
techniques of aquatic biologists as they chart the movements of
fish in a classroom aquarium. They plan experiments to determine
the effects of an environmental change on the home ranges of the
fish.
Students apply a useful technique to map
the movements of individual fish as they feed, defend themselves,
and establish their territory within the aquarium.
Time: Three 30- to 45-minute sessions plus time for daily observations
and follow-up sessions.
